What a standard dry container is

A standard dry container is the general-purpose steel container for dry cargo and storage. It has corrugated steel walls, a wooden floor, and cargo doors at one end. Standard height is 8ft 6in on the outside, which is what separates it from a high cube.

Sizes in this category

  • 8ft and 10ft units for tight sites, garages, and small equipment stores
  • 20ft units, the most common size for job sites, farms, and home storage
  • 30ft units, including cut-down containers shortened from a longer box and re-welded with a new end wall
  • 40ft units for bulk storage and long items

Condition grades

Each listing states its condition. A one-trip container was shipped once from the factory overseas, then sold, so it's the closest thing to new. A cargo-worthy (CW) unit has been inspected fit to carry cargo, with structurally sound doors, floor, and seals. A wind and watertight (WWT) unit keeps rain and weather out and is sound for storage, but it isn't certified for ocean transport. If you only need storage on the ground, WWT is usually the lowest-cost grade. If the unit will be shipped again or you want fewer dents and less rust, look at CW or one-trip.

Layouts beyond end doors

  • Tunnel containers have cargo doors at both ends, so you can load through and reach stock from either side.
  • Open-side containers have doors along a full long side for wide access.
  • Bunded stores have a built-in spill sump under a raised or mesh floor, for drums, oils, and chemicals that need containment.

Choosing a unit

Start with the footprint your site can take and the length of the longest item you'll store. Then pick the grade that matches the job. If you're storing tall pallets or equipment, compare the high cube containers, which add one foot of height. Every product page lists dimensions, condition, and available finishes. Request a quote on the unit you want and we'll confirm price and delivery to your address.
